Plating in which a plating state is different from usual and in which plating has swollen has discolored...
Only by observing from outside, however it may think, a true cause is not known.
Seeing the substance of abnormalities from a section is the first means that explores a cause.
For example, when plating swells, a cause can be specified by swelling and checking the cross-sectional state of a part, and it leads to speed-ization of measure implementation.

Unelectrolyzed nickel plating is performed to brass. The poor color tone was checked after plating. However, since I did not understand only by glancing at whether it has deposited and whether it is gloss unevenness, it analyzed.
From the surface analysis in SEM, although nickel deposit was checked (it checks by EDS), it was checked that surface deposit states differ. 
It was usually checked because the unusual part was an uneven membrane while the part was a smooth plating membrane, so that a color tone might be different.


It is considered as a cause that there was a problem in a plating liquid state, that plating processing conditions were mismatches as a cause which such gloss unevenness generates, etc.

This example is the product which carried out nickel plating at Cu material.
Since appearance was not smooth, it analyzed about the unusual part.
In the result of EDS analysis, only Cu was detected for nickel by un-detecting. Therefore, it turned out that nickel has not deposited. Furthermore, C was detected by the undeposited portion. Therefore, it is thought that the plating deposit was checked by foreign substance adhesion.



In this mode, the foreign substance has adhered before plating tunic formation. Therefore, for an improvement, it is effective to examine how and when this foreign substance adhered. Moreover, it also becomes a clue to an improvement to get to know what kind of foreign substance it is. The ingredient analysis of the foreign substance by analysis by ATS or FT-IR is also possible in our company.
